Decolonization is not a metaphor

decolonizing the mind is the first step, not the only step toward overthrowing colonial regimes. Yet we wonder whether another settler move to innocence is to focus on decolonizing the mind, or the cultivation of critical consciousness, as if it were the sole
activity of decolonization; to allow conscientization to stand in for the more uncomfortable task of relinquishing stolen land.

Today is Day 1 of the Close Pine Gap + Sacred Land Back Convergence 2026 in Mparntwe (Alice Springs) in so-called Australia where over 250 activists from around the country are meeting for talks, workshops and protest.

Pine Gap is a desert base established in 1970 on stolen sacred lands of the Arrernte people, used by the US military for surveillance activities to further US imperialism.
