“The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new.”
“Socrates”, gas station attendant in Dan Millman’s “Way of the Peaceful Warrior”
Thanks to The Bag Lady blog for bringing this quote back to my attention. It’s not by the Socrates of antiquity (https://quoteinvestigator.com/2013/05/28/socrates-energy/), but it does contain a certain wisdom.
I think there needs to be a balance between fighting the old and building the new…if we spend all our time fighting, the powers that be can lead us on a merry dance of their own choosing. But if we totally ignore them, they can literally get away with murder — and they still might, regardless, because Power. Money. Privilege.
What do you think about the quote? How should we divide our efforts?
